Energy Solutions has carried out energy audits of 17 Primary and Secondary schools in Brent and is in the process of auditing 4 Hillingdon schools.
In every case potential savings have been identified at
little or no cost to the school:
Climate Change Levy - There is confusion over payment of the Climate Change Levy, which only some of the schools should have been paying. One school will save £3,500 a year simply by having the CCL removed from its utility bills.
Monitor Energy Use - Reading meters monthly and recording consumption is a basic and necessary first step to establishing an energy management system.
Housekeeping - There are simple good housekeeping measures (e.g. turning lights off when rooms are not being used/ setting computers to power saving modes) which if implemented could save each school a few per cent of their total fuel bills
Investment and Funding - Major savings in costs and CO2 emissions will only be achieved by significant capital expenditure on the fabric and heating/lighting systems of the schools, but there are specialist companies who will make this investment on behalf of schools in return for a percentage of the financial savings made.
Energy Solutions is able to provide this complete audit service to a limited number of schools in North West London each year.
