North West London is a mixture of urban and suburban environment, stretching from the outskirts of the West End to the Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire countryside.


Brent

The London Borough of Brent in particular covers 4,325 hectares with a total population of 250,000. It is the most ethnically diverse borough in the UK and contains areas of serious social deprivation, mostly in the south of the borough where there are a number of regeneration areas. It also has the highest concentration of industry in London, focused on the Park Royal industrial estate, with a particular concentration of food processing businesses.

Total energy consumption is around 18 gigajoules a year, which is almost 100% imported. Domestic buildings consume around 36% of the total and transport accounts for 29%. There are serious air quality problems in the south of Brent due to high road traffic levels.
