Energy Solutions begins work on an Ebico Trust-funded project

29 Feb 2011

With funding from the Ebico Trust, Energy Solutions is running a 12-month project to increase the level of data available about fuel poverty in Brent specifically. This is being run in conjunction with our existing work that aims to remove people from living in fuel poverty by signposting to domestic energy efficiency schemes, resolving their fuel debt issues and provision of advice on home energy efficiency and debt management.

The Ebico project has two aims:

1) To reach out to more residents likely to be fuel poor.

2) To collect data about the properties of people living in fuel poverty enabling us to better understand the relationship between property size/condition and household income in determining fuel poverty.

Ebico Ltd is the UK's only not-for-profit energy supplier aiming to offer a better, fairer deal for domestic energy to British households.

Brent's Climate Change and Social Media Project hailed a great success

10 Jan 2011

Brent's Climate Change and Social Media Project has come to a successful conclusion with the majority of the 180 residents who took part in the study reporting 15% savings in household energy consumption over the period of the study.

Brent Council asked a sample of its residents to volunteer to monitor the energy consumption in their homes over a six month period. Participants were given small energy monitoring devices and were encouraged to create and maintain a lively citizen-driven dialogue on energy saving by using social media applications such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Blogger. The simple monitoring exercise raised awareness about household energy consumption and made it relatively easy for residents to save at least 10% off their energy bills between the period of May to November 2010, with many of the 180 who took part reporting savings of over 15%.

Energy Solutions helped to develop the project working in partnership with Brent Council. We also provided support to the volunteers throughout the study by posting regular energy efficiency advice topics on blogs, tweets and videocasts using a variety of social media applications.
