Home Energy Solutions
The Home Energy Solutions project
was funded by the Association of London Government, and set out to
reduce domestic energy consumption and consequent CO2 emissions, while
promoting the uptake energy efficiency measures and renewable energy installations
over four years.
BRET
The Business Use of Renewable Energy Technology project provided Small
& Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with in-depth advice and assistance to reduce
energy consumption and CO2 emissions, install renewable energy technologies
and generally reduce their environmental impacts.
Funded by the Government Office for London through the European Regional Development Fund it targeted all 'Objective 2' areas of London - which in West London related to the entire Park Royal Estate together with parts of White City and Shepherds Bush.
A free energy and environmental audit was provided to each SME and depending on their needs and requirments this was followed by a report and recommendations towards specifying and implementing energy efficiency or renewable energy measures as well as help in accessing grants or other forms of financial support. The project finished in December 2007 by which time Energy Solutions havd advised over local 230 local business. Of these;
- 160 had been 'advised' entailing a simple walk round audit of their premises with a list of general energy efficieny recommendations
- 75 had been 'assisted' entailing a detailed audit, report and recommendations
- 8 SMEs had been persauded to change to a renewable energy supplier or started using local biodiesel in their transport fleet operations
Energy Intelligence
This project, funded through the Energy Saving Trust’s Innovation Programme,
aimed to take an innovative approach to carbon reduction by targeting
homeowners at the point where they had decided to invest in extensions,
loft conversions or other major improvements to their homes and were therefore
most likely to consider investment in energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
On offer were an integrated package of information and advice, a detailed
house survey, costed recommendations of EE measures and renewables, discounts,
grants and interest-free loans. Partners in the project included Brent
Council, EDF Energy, Creative Environmental Networks (CEN) and Saloria
Architects. Because of increasing demand twoards the end of the project
ES is hoping to continue offering a service such as this on a competitive,
fee-paying basis.
‘Healthy Homes for Healthy Lives’
This project involved helping vulnerable households in Brent and Harrow,
referred by health workers, whose health was affected by poor housing
conditions and lack of proper insulation, draughtproofing and heating
in particular. ES offered home visits and surveys together with assistance
in accessing grants for energy efficiency and heating improvements.
Energy Efficiency Outreach Project
This project, funded by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, provided targeted
energy efficiency advice to individuals and community groups in a small
area of Brent which is classified among the 10% most socially deprived
in the UK. Residents were helped with accessing grant funding for insulation
and heating, while draughtproofing installation was provided free of charge
to vulnerable households.
‘Billbusters’
Funded by the EST, Billbusters aimed to provide an improved quality of
service for installation of loft insulation, draughtproofing and Thermostatic
Radiator Valves at a lower cost, by setting up a system with one local
installer. The project also had an objective to create employment and
recycle money spent on energy efficiency into the local economy. Brent
Council provided advertising of the scheme to all its residents through
its media services.
